I have decided to write a review on my experience with optical express and my laser eye
experience with them.
February 2009
I had been interested in getting laser eye for a few years now, so I booked a consultation at my
local optical express, which is in Motherwell. After going through the consultation, I found out that due to having rheumatoid arthritis
I couldn t get the treatment until I was on a steady dose of Methotrexate. Disappointed I left it at that.
April 2009
After being
told I was on a steady dose of my medication, and that I got a £150 voucher through the door. I decided to ask
optical express if I was a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery. Thankfully I was (Yaaaayy!!!) so I booked my appointment for my
laser eye surgery which was the 30th of May 2009.
There was much sooner appointments but I had already booked this particular week off
work so it was convenient to have it at that specific date.
May 2009
Literally a week or 2 before my laser eye treatment, I was
surprised to find that Optical Express were visiting my work offering all employees 10% off! I literally ran to the desk asking if I was
able to get this discount, it just so happened that the manager from the Motherwell store was there and she said she would get back to
me and within days she got back to me. Very impressed and please, especially since she didn t have to go to the trouble of finding
out.
By this point I m delighted but also getting very nervous and anxious about the treatment.
30th of May 2009 - The Big Day!
Me
and my sister arrived at Optical Express early, we were taken to a waiting room, where I was surprised to see quite a few people
waiting. I gave the nurse the consent form, and was asked to wait.
After waiting a short while I was asked to follow a really nice and
somewhat hyper& nurse? He took me into another room to do 2 short tests, nothing scary at all. Once they were over I was asked to sit
in the waiting room with my sister again.
After another small wait I went into meet the Surgeon, and what a lovely person she was, very
helpful, cheerful, and confident, everything she told me put me at ease. She asked me a couple of questions my age, and what my job was,
and lastly checked my eyes.
Back in the waiting room for the last time before my laser eye treatment.
While waiting to go for my
treatment someone who had just had the treatment done was sitting in the waiting room, looking uncomfortable and very unhappy, and all
those feelings of ease that the surgeon instilled into me disappeared, I was back to literally crapping it.
Fortunately 2 other people
came out after her both smiling, and pleased about how the treatment went.
After waiting for around it must have been 30 minutes it was
my turn!
Firstly they took me into this little room, where a lovely nurse put on my paper cap, explained the eye drops to me, although
I was probably to nervous to listen at this point but it doesn t matter because they put labelled on them explaining when to use these
drops and when.
After he explained everything I sat in the room waiting for the previous person to finish there surgery, I cant really
say how long I was waiting for because I was far to nervous to notice.
So it was time for me to go in!
It s quite hard to describe
the room, except it was cold and it has 2 large laser machines and a bed that can move between them.
So they get me on to the bed and
another nurse cleans my eyes and puts in eye drops that numbed my eyes complete, honestly you can fell nothing.
So we started off with
the lap cutting using intralase, they used like a suction ring to keep my eye open and in place, and it took 20 seconds if that to
complete 1 eye and then it was repeated on the 2nd eye.
They then moved the bed to the laser correction machine, they clamp one eye
open and pull the flat back, this was the part that worried me but it s nothing! Anyway you look at an orange light and you hear a
clicking sound and the smell from the laser, and within another 20 seconds the surgeon put some liquid on my eye and returned the flap
back into place and securing it to where it should be. They repeated this with the 2nd eye and that was that! Easy peasy!
The nurse
that explained the procedure to me asked me to sit up slowly, and asked how I was feeling then took me to the waiting room with my
sister.
To make sure I didn t scare anyone like the first woman that scared me I made sure I was smiling and talking positively about
my experience with my sister.
Now the best way I find to describe what I saw when my eyes were open would either be when there was no
smoking ban in pubs and all you could see was smoke everywhere I d say it was mostly like that, or being underwater. However what you
can see is very clear.
I waited for 10 minutes the surgeon did a check up and I was free to go.
Whilst walking to the car with my
sister, I noticed discomfort while being in the sunlight, which is quite typical as being in Scotland we don t get that many sunny,
clear days. So anyway she guided me most of the way to the car.
The feeling you get isn t painful its uncomfortable, it s really hard
to open your eyes they feel quite heavy. So I did as my surgeon advised I went to sleep for almost 3 hours, when I woke up all
discomfort gone and I can see! Yay!!!
Basically if your interested in going to get laser eye done, but your scared too, just go for it,
the procedure is easy.
You feel nothing, you don t need to worry about moving your eye, you don t even notice the clamp being put
in.
So I was in Optical Express for a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes, and sent home to recover, I went to sleep around 2pm and work up
at around 5:30pm with no discomfort at all, and seeing perfectly clearly. Amazing!
31st of May 2009 - Next Day Check Up.
Went into
silver burn shopping centre in Glasgow an hour earlier to see if I could get taken earlier, the girl rudely told me that I was booked in
for 11:30 and there was no earlier appointments.
Fair enough.
Since I was in a shopping centre I decided to do a little shopping until
11:30. Once I went back to optical express they sat me in another room, and I waited& and waited& and waited and waited some
more.
After 30 minutes I asked how long I was going to be waiting, and was told a few minutes (Yeah right!)
After a further 15 minutes
I was finally taken in for my check up. (Hurray!)
I was in for roughly 5 minutes, told my eyes were better than 20/20 and that was
that.
Disappointed with silver burn optical express compared to Glasgow and Motherwell& the customer service was rotten.
Well that s
it people my first and possibly only review is finished!
