Dr Bratby and Emily were the kindest souls I have met in a medical centre. I was so so nervous after fighting leg pain for so many
years. Just the thought of someone touching my legs would leave me quite anxious, my kids don't even get to sit on my lap so you can
only imagine how nervous I was stepping into the room.
I started with varicose veins at the age of 16, in South Africa they put an
iodine drip in your foot to track the veins and confirm that things are failing. I was always told that I was too young for surgery and
would just have to manage the pain until I was older. Back then the only option was stripping, and the success rates weren't as long
lasting as you would hope. Since then, I have run daily, cycled daily, done everything and anything to get relief. Sitting for too long
hurt, cooking dinner involved a lot of marching on the spot, sleeping was a big issue as the veins throbbed and ached if anything put
pressure on them. Even going to the loo was a nightmare. The pressure in my veins was awful when I went from lying down to standing.
Fast forward to 2020 and I started getting superficial thrombophlebitis. 3 bouts and many assessments with Doctors left me feeling
hopeless. They tried so hard to help but with NHS cuts, their hands were tied. At this point I decided to try to go private. A previous
scan from 10 years earlier left me feeling like I had no option for help as I was told my deep veins would not be strong enough... so I
was not feeling hopeful.
The day I walked into the surgery, Mark and Emily were amazing. They took their time to scan my legs, a far
superior way of detecting deficiencies than what I had had 10 years previously. Much to my joy - and yes I did cry, they confirmed that
they could help. I was over the moon!
In January 2021, I had my first treatment, and it will be a moment I will forever be grateful
for. I shook like a leaf but Mark and Emily were very calm and kept me distracted. They were fantastic. I can honestly say, although not
being a comfortable procedure, the results were almost instant. Within 2 days I could tell that the major issues were gone... gone for
good. I could stand, sit, walk, sleep, all without the constant throb. My headspace was not filled with thinking about pain management.
I could wear the same jeans I put on in the morning as my legs no longer swelled. I had ankles ALL DAY LONG! I honestly could not
remember a time when I didn't feel leg pain, so these pain free legs felt completely new to me. Hands down, the best thing I have EVER
done for myself. After a week and a half of bruising, I could see the results more obviously, and I am so happy.
I have now had the
last session of sclerotherapy treatment and my legs no longer have the blue look to them, they look and feel so much better. I now
exercise for the pure joy of it, not the manage pain.
Thank you, Mark Bratby and Emily Jones, for giving me a brand-new pair of legs,
and clearing my headspace from worry and constantly thinking about them. You are absolute rockstars!
